We are asking kinship carers and people with insight into kinship care to meet their local MPs online, to make the case for a better deal for kinship carers. The Virtual Lobby will follow the launch on 30th September 2020 (at 2-3.30pm) of the landmark report from the Parliamentary Taskforce on Kinship Care. The report will show that kinship carers are widely unrecognised, underappreciated and often poorly supported and will set out steps that parliamentarians can take to address this.
To take part follow these three easy steps:
1. Register to take part
Register on eventbrite to join Family Rights Group's Virtual Lobby of Parliament during Kinship Care Week, 5-11 October. We will provide more information and support nearer the time.
We are keen for as many kinship carers as possible to take part, so sign up to receive further guidance on taking part in the mass lobby.
2. Find your Local MP
MPs usually have an office in their constituency (your local area), and in Parliament. You can contact them at either office by telephone, letter or email.
You can find your Local MP and their contact details by typing your postcode into parliament’s website.
3. Contact your Local MP
Please use the email template here to contact your Local MP, to request a virtual meeting during Kinship Care week (and also invite them to the Taskforce report launch on 30th September).
Through sharing your experiences you can give your MP an idea of what life is like for kinship carers where you live. It's an opportunity to ensure kinship carer voices are heard to raise general awareness about kinship care.
