Your Family, Your Voice – An Alliance of families, practitioners and academics working to transform the system.

In 2014 Family Rights Group received funding from Lankelly Chase Foundation for a 3-year period to establish and service Your Family, Your Voice - an alliance of families, practitioners and academics working to transform the systems with which families whose children are subject to, or at risk of, state intervention come into contact.  The alliance's work includes empirical research conducted by Professors Brigid Featherstone and Kate Morris which examines how families make sense of seeking help/working with welfare services.  Family Rights Group is delighted to have received further funding from Lankelly Chase Foundation to continue to develop the work of the alliance over another 3 years.

Stepping Up, Stepping Down
How families make sense of working with welfare services

As part of the programme of work undertaken by the Your Family Your Voice Alliance, a report by Professors Featherstone & Morris has been published today (29.10.2018), presenting new research on families’ experiences of statutory intervention about their children. The report identifies the large amount of knowledge and practice wisdom carried by families and opens the door to possibilities of reforming our services from the ‘bottom up’.

How to get involved?

What will Your Family, Your Voice try to achieve?

The Alliance will work to:

  • Counter the stigma, negative presumptions and judgemental approaches to families whose children are subject to, or at risk of, state intervention by influencing how these families are perceived by the public and portrayed by the media and politicians;
  • Influence law, policy, practice and service design and delivery so that our child welfare, child mental health, youth justice and education systems promote effective human functioning and healthy relationships;
  • Enable these families to have a voice in policy and decision-making circles.
