Life as a sex offender UK

Post by Toughlife » Mon Jun 13, 2022 8:43 pm

I have joined this forum to seek some advice and support. I will be honest in everything that I write here. Last year I was convicted as a sex offender for an attempt to sexual communicate with a minor. I was in an adult chat room and an adult pretended to be a child was chatting to me. I am in the register for 10 years and I lost my job that I loved. I am lucky that my wife stood by me. I have 2 kids. I am very shameful of my behaviour that led to my offences and I regret everyday. After the court case and my story been in the local papers, I have been trying to rebuild my life. Life has been tough but I got a job that doesn’t pay much as my previous job but am determined to do any job to make sure that my kids and family are well fed. I am trying to be positive in life and move on and I hope that I can still contribute to the society. I am still in probation( I was given a suspended sentence) and I am grateful for that because I could have been sent to jail. I am lucky that I have been allowed unsupervised access to my kids( the probation officer) told social services that I have cooperated very well and I have shown remorse and there is no danger to my kids. In future I would like to get into a career; something to do with cyber security. Is there anyone who has been in a similar situation as me, and they made it. I want to hear some stories of success.
Thanks

Dear Toughlife

Thank you for your post and for your honesty in describing your situation. Our service gives advice to families who have Children’s Services involvement which is a part of your current situation, if you wish to speak with an adviser our lines are open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 3.00pm on 0808 801 0366.

Our boards are for discussion and support but perhaps the support you require may be found from organisations that specialise in supporting sex offenders. I have searched the Internet and found Nacro who has some helpful information. May I also suggest that you ask probation services if they can find other support groups for you?

For general help and advice here are two charities that may be useful, Lucy Faithfull and Unlock .

Best wishes

Suzie
