Dear Kitty 33
Thanks for your post.
You have been offered a family meeting, due to take place in a couple of weeks. However, you have not been given information about it yet.
You can ask your social worker to explain more about what it is and to let you know when and how it will happen. It is good practice to bring family/friends together; social workers are expected to involve the wider family support network when making plans for children.
A family meeting is usually a meeting arranged and led by the social worker (not an independent coordinator) to bring together your wider family and friends network to see how they can support you to care for your baby, in some cases to help care for the baby if you were not able to. It can be a really good way of identifying what support you may need and who can provide it and should lead to a safe family plan.
Sometimes families are offered either a family meeting or a family group conference (FGC). They are not the same though. Just make sure whether you are having a family meeting not an FGC as there are some differences.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes
Suzie
