Re: Section 47
Dear Mumof6,
Welcome to the parents' forum and thank you for your post.
You say in your post that a strategy meeting was held last Wednesday but that the social worker has not been in touch since.
A strategy meeting takes place place between a social worker and the police when they are worried a child may be at risk of significant harm. Other professionals who know a child may also be involved.
Its purpose it to share information and decide whether:
- Children’s services need to start child protection enquiries - also known as section 47 enquiries. If it is felt that this is necessary, the strategy discussion should focus on how the matter should proceed. You can read more about child protection enquiries here.
- Any immediate steps need to be taken to keep the child safe.
Parents are not normally invited to a strategy discussion. However, they should be told soon afterwards what the plan is for the child, as long as this does not cause any risk to the child. I would advise that you contact the social worker as soon as possible to ask for an update on the outcome of the strategy meeting.
I hope you have found this helpful.
Best wishes,
Suzie.
