Dear Girl98,

Thankyou for your further post. You would like to know what to expect from a Section 7 report and what it covers.

As I previously explained a Section 7 report is a welfare report that will address the questions you listed in your post on 24th November, and will assist the court in making its decision to discharge the special guardianship order or not. The topics covered will be that which the court has requested answers to (which you put in your post on 24th November):

i) The ability of the parents to care for A.

ii) Whether the circumstances of the parents have changed since the making of the special guardianship order and, if so, how.

iii) Whether, in the opinion of the Local Authority, the special guardianship order should be discharged.

So, in short – the social worker will be considering whether you are able to care for your child, whether your circumstances have changed and whether the social worker thinks that your child should continue to be cared by your sister under an SGO or whether the SGO should be discharged and your child returned to your care.

Again, I advise you to discuss this with the social worker once they have been allocated and ask them to clarify with you when they expect to complete the report and how many sessions they think they will need with you.

I hope that this is helpful,

Best wishes,
Suzie
