Care protocols for ASD children in care

Post by Lee2004 » Fri Aug 17, 2012 9:53 pm

Hi All, Does anyone know of any standard guideline for ASD children in care? My friend's daughter is in care and she has Aspergers Syndrome (same as my two boys) and the FC seems to be taking advantage of some of her traits. Friend's Daughter (FD) will copy behaviours, say what she thinks you want to hear, is super keen to 'fit in' as a means for compensating for her lower social skills. FC & SS are well aware of her Aspergers but there dont seem to be any guidelines we can make them adhere too. FD will also believe anything you tell her (and often take it literally) and we have very many reasons to believe FC is taking advantage of this. We have done a lot of research into this and can't find anything, so any info gratefully received.

Hi Lee 204

You may wish to contact the National Autistic Society, on 0808 800 4104 between Monday to Fridays 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

You may also find it useful to look at the Family Rights Group advice sheet on
duties of the Local Authority when a child is in care, as this gives further information of policies and procedures that should be followed in relation to your child.

If you wish to discuss your situation in more detail, please contact the Family Rights Group advice line on 0808 801 0366 Monday to Friday 09.30 am to 03.30 pm.

Best Wishes
