means test for s/g/o

Post by divadi2000 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 8:49 pm

Do all local authoritys use the same means test for financial assessment for special guardianship order or are they all different? I have my 2 grandaughters age 10 & 2 and the local authority are pushing me to go for order they came to me 11mths ago after they rang and asked if i would take them i agreed as the other option was they would have gone into care, they came under a child protection plan and which was changed to children in need plan now that they are with me the social worker i have is rubbish to say the least!! she doesnt give me any info ive had to educate myself eg via internet and she hasnt given me any direction regarding the s/g/order only saying you wont get an allowance due to cut backs etc but seek legal advice of which i did but i am not entitled to legal aid as just over the threshold
any advice would be very much appreciated Thanks

I think they vary from county to county. I know the exact formula they used to calculate mine, as it went down this year and with expenses going up and pay staying same I could not work it out. So they sent me their calculations. I am in Devon.

Initially I was told there was no money available for this sort of thing though!! But I pushed and SW said he would take it to the panel - whatever that meant. I guess the panel decided wether or not to help financailly or not.

Not all LA's use the same module, but there is a government recommended formula, it will give you the basic amount you could be awarded if you qualify. I have alerted someone who is very good with this kind of thing to see if they can help, hopefully they will be along soon.

If they really want you to have an SGO then if you cant afford legal rep yourself they are going to have to pay for it. If they wont then you can simply say you cant apply for the order.

Oh lord, a mackam,[:D] Im an ex Geordie[;)]

Part of the SGO Assessment should be financial. Have they started any assessment yet or are they waiting for your agreement for that?

Hello

I have a copy of the one Kent use and I am happy to discuss it. It is very long winded but mail me if you would like to.

Keep insisting of that assessment and request a copy of the means test used. x x
