Grants for kinship carers who have worked in clothing, textiles or related industries

Post by Suzie, FRG Adviser » Mon Feb 24, 2020 12:55 pm

Hi

We have been contact by The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust who wish raise awareness about grants they have available for carers and parents who have worked in clothing, textiles or related industries, for essential items, therapy and support for children.

The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust is offering grants to kinship carer families (including those with children who are in care, subject to Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangements Order, or under a private family arrangement) to fund set-up and ongoing costs and other essential items for children aged 0-18 years. Funded items include children’s bedroom furniture, clothing and school uniform, and white goods.

They also fund wellbeing support costs for children aged 0-18 years in kinship households who have health or psychological needs. Funded services include therapy costs, educational support, sensory toys, specialist equipment and more.

To apply for a grant: one carer or parent* must work or have recently worked (in the past nine years) for a company which sells, makes, or processes clothing, textiles or products made from fabrics. These include all employees of high street clothes shops (e.g. John Lewis, M&S, Debenhams), supermarket chains which sell clothing (e.g. ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, etc.), laundry companies (e.g. local dry cleaners, laundrettes or large laundry companies,), soft furnishing retailers (e.g. IKEAS, DFS, Dunelm Mill, etc.) and other related businesses. Those no longer in work can still apply, provided their employment at these companies was within the past nine years.

*Applications from birth parents can be accepted provided they agree to work with the kinship carer on the application.

The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust is a trade charity for the fashion and textile industry. Set up in 1853, the charity supports more than 600 children every year. Anyone interested in applying can find out more on their website: Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust - grants for kinship carers

Best wishes
