Desperately needing advice

Post by Just me » Tue Sep 17, 2019 9:43 pm

I am currently a kinship carer and have been looking after my nieces and nephews for the past 16 months, their adoptive parents have been charged with a schedule one offence for over chastisement, we were at a children's panel in July when the social work obtained a compulsory supervision order for another year at our address. Now they are concerned with the kids emotional safety with us and have already had a resources meeting and taking us back to the children's panel for removal of the three kids, they state the reasons as the following..
Saying things that's not appropriate in front of the kids.. Ie. My mother in law saying they will go in a boys home ( she is 76 with a terminal illness) the kids don't listen to her
I called the social work to say I was at the end with one of the children and couldn't do it anymore ( surely I'm not the only person who has done this?) reason I called.. He was went to school for 3 weeks and everyday comes in dirty from head to toe our concerns were he has asthma and obviously sitting wet or damp in the classroom. We went to the school to report this they were going monitor his uniform through out the day and that same day he came home in totally different clothes, may I also point out he has ruined his school shoes and trainer pair of trouser and a jacket the first week.through playing football, and has became violent in the past playing this game, we discourage him from football at school and said we would put him into a club if he wanted to play so badly,
The kids also do 20 mins or so at the door for misbehaving a punishment which our kinship worker said was appropriate.
We grounded my neice who is 6 and my nephew who is 9 for a week to there rooms for sexual contact but on the third day they were allowed to read their books or magazine just not watch TV., I still belive in installing moral and discipline into the children, my social worker said they we can't do that as they are LAC children but they are my family. Surely they don't have enough grounds for this.

Sorry for the long post but I would appreciate any advice, we live in the west of Scotland

Thank you so much

Dear Just me

Welcome to the Family and Friends Carers’ discussion board and thank you for posting. My name is Suzie, FRG’s online adviser. I am sorry to hear about the difficulties that you have been having since taking on the care of your nieces and nephews.

You mention at the end of your post that you live in the West of Scotland. Unfortunately, Family Rights Group can only provide advice to families involved with children’s services in England and Wales; we do not have the specialist knowledge to advise on the Scottish system.

I hope that you may be able to get some advice and support from the Scottish Child Law Centre or Clan Childlaw .

With best wishes
Suzie
