Virtual Lobby of Parliament for Kinship Carers

Post by Forum Administrator » Wed Sep 23, 2020 6:24 pm

Dear all,

We are writing to invite you to participate in Family Rights Group’s Virtual Lobby of Parliament, taking place during Kinship Care Week 5-11 October.

We are asking kinship carers and people with insight into kinship care to meet their local MP online, to raise awareness about kinship care, ensure their voice is heard by politicians and to make the case for a better deal for kinship carers.

The Virtual Lobby will follow the launch on 30th September 2020
(at 2-3.30pm) of the landmark report from the Parliamentary Taskforce on Kinship Care. The report will show that kinship carers are widely unrecognised, underappreciated and often poorly supported and will set out steps that parliamentarians can take to address this.

To take part in the Virtual Lobby follow these three easy steps:

1. Register to take part on the Eventbrite page (we will then provide more information and support nearer the time).
2. Find your local MP here .
3. Contact your MP using this email template to request a virtual meeting during Kinship Care week (and also invite them to the Taskforce report launch on the 30th).

We are keen for as many kinship carers as possible to take part. We will provide you with the required support, so that through sharing your experiences you can give your MP an idea of what life is like for kinship carers where you live. It’s an opportunity to ensure kinship carer voices are heard to raise general awareness about kinship care.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact Sam Martin at Family Rights Group: sammartin@frg.org.uk.

Best wishes,

The team at Family Rights Group

P.S. Remember to register to take part here .

Hi all, just a reminder that this is ongoing during Kinship Care Week which starts today (5 Oct).

There's still plenty of time to contact your MP and have a discussion with them about kinship care, which is how we will bring about change in the system. Just follow the instructions above (it's also fine to contact them this week, and then speak with them at a later date).

thanks, Sam
