Documentary on sibling carers

Post by Forum Administrator » Sat Feb 21, 2015 1:13 am

Hi
We have been contacted by a documentary team who are keen to produce a film about sibling carers and the experiences and challenges they face. They have asked FRG to post the following and to make a request that any sibling carers who are willing to be interviewed contact them. (at this stage they are doing background research so there is no commitment to being filmed

"Here at Transparent Television Factual we are making primetime documentaries for BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5. We are currently working on a documentary for a major broadcaster looking at brothers and sisters who have legal care over their younger siblings in the form of Special Guardianship, Residence Orders, Fostering or even on the rare occasion Adoption. As well as those who do not have an order in place but have the parental responsibility in their household with their siblings.

We are making this documentary to aim raise awareness of brave sibling carers and highlight the strength and uniqueness of the brotherly and sisterly bond.

We are keen speak to those who have been involved in these kind of sibling care arrangements to potentially be involved in the documentary but more importantly, in order to get an idea of the different experiences out there. We would also like to speak to siblings considering one of the above care arrangements.

We would like to reassure people that at this stage getting in touch by no means commits them to filming the documentary, we would just like to have an initial conversation. It makes all the difference even just speaking to people and finding out their stories, as this can help us in finding other people. So even if you are unsure, please do make that initial contact and I (Chabris) will answer any further questions you may have.

We are working to a tight deadline before proceeding with the next stage to make the documentary, so it would be great to begin initial conversations as soon as possible. Of course everything will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Thank you so much in advance and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. Please find my contact details below and I look forward to hearing from you.
