Re: No financial support
Cautiously good news. :D Hopefully you will now get a proper resolution. As is often said, 'Keep on, keeping on' at them. Please remember to update us as and when it's resolved, or of course if you need further advice. Remember also, that my advice is based only on on my knowledge and experience. Th...

Re: Court order
It's not really the right forum for your query as this one is specifically for Family and Friends who are caring for, or are looking to care for a child. The correct forum for your needs is the Parents Forum, even though your query is on behalf of your son. It can be found at https://www.frg.org.uk/...

Re: Connected person assessment
Hi Dunston. If you have the positive assessment in 'black and white' I suggest you ask your son for the contact details of the social worker at his end. You could then send a copy of the evidence through with a copy to your own LA and ask how this misinformation has happened. If that gets you no-whe...

Re: BMI in relation to SGO assessments
Hello and welcome here. My understanding is that the assessments for foster, adoption and special guardianship are all similar if not the same. The assessing social worker needs to consider any factors that may affect the security of the placement long term. In other words they don't want to place a...

Re: Complicated situation
Sadly it's all too common. We were also foster parents for many years, and in some cases, dealing with the parents was more exhausting than helping the children. However, to be honest, the most stress came from the social workers who changed every other week. I can also empathise with the parents wh...

Re: SGO advice
I would start with a phone call to the social worker or their manager. If that leaves you with no reassurance, start a formal complaint. You will find help on how to do that at https://frg.org.uk/get-help-and-advice/what/complaints/.

Re: Complicated situation
Hello and welcome. Under a SGO, unless the legislation has changed, the birth parent can take the matter back to court, but can only apply initially for 'leave to appeal'. To get through the first step they have to be able to demonstrate that there has been a 'significant change in circumstances'. I...

Re: SGO advice
Hello and welcome. So sorry that you lost your daughter and therefore need to be parent, rather than grandparents to the children. Suzie the FRG advisor will be along to fully answer you when she can, but my understanding is that this should all have been settled as part of the SGO hearing. Any agre...

Re: Ending an sgo!
Welcome to this forum. So sorry to hear a 10 year placement has broken down. We were not special guardians but had a similar situation when a placid child turned into a violent and angry teenager. It's emotionally draining. I am frankly stunned that Children's Services refuse to help as they have a ...

Re: No financial support
We found our MP very helpful in moving the apparent immovable. I would also complain to the ombudsman on the grounds that they are refusing to go to stage 2, let alone stage 3. You can do most of it online, but make sure you include the correspondence showing there refusal to go to the next stage. A...
