Re: CAO Financial Support

Glad to be of some help. I just wish all social workers would read these forums and realise how many kinship carers feel cheated. It cannot possibly be that every one of the carers on here misheard!

Re: CAO Financial Support

Hi again. Yes, put in a formal complaint. You should find the details on the local authority web-site. You can also speak to your local councillor and see if they will assist. Ditto your MP. They may bring about a quicker conclusion. Enlisting the support of either does not have any adverse effect o...

Re: Kinship carers fostering allowance.

Yes we have about 20 years ago. We had a long term foster child who was a Ward of the High Court, but the County Council still paid the fostering allowance while a child. He had congenital heart disease and was there very limited in what he could do. We asked the LA to continue payments and they ref...

Re: Ending an sgo!

Hello again. Could I ask how old your nephew is now please? You say he had been with you for 10 years. I assumed earlier that me was therefore a teenager. While the actual age is not significant, the point comes where the child is deemed able to make their own decisions. Certainly once a child gets ...

Re: Police Investigation and PLO

Hi nanatired. Sorry it's been a couple of days throughout which I am sure you have been quite stressed. It's not an easy question to answer as it's criminal law that FRG don't normally deal with. However, I have taken the opportunity to discuss with my police sergeant nephew whilst giving no details...

Re: Malicious accusations

I see no alternative but to contact the police pointing out the threats and seek their advice. I would also contact your local children's services dept and advise them the same. It would be better if the police were informed first. They will almost certainly want to visit you and the child to ensure...

Re: SGO vs Kinship Care

I didn't know that the reference document at https://frg.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2 ... N-PAGE.pdf existed.
Very helpful. Thanks @Suzie (and whomever at FRG put it together. :D .

Re: SGO CONTACT ISSUES

I would add our experiences of mediation. 1. We were very cynical to begin with, but to be fair to the mediator, they played with a straight bat. Unfortunately our daughter saw mediation as giving her the power to tell us what we should be doing, and refused to budge one iota on her ridiculous deman...

Re: SGO vs Kinship Care

Hi. A quick answer. As Kinship carers you could be Special Guardians, foster carers, or under a 'private arrangement'. See https://frg.org.uk/get-help-and-advice/who/kinship-carers/ which gives a more detailed explanation. A brief summary: A Special Guardianship order gives you parental responsibili...
