Re: Grants for University for those on SGO
For support under the Children (Leaving Care) Act, the responsible authority is the one where the children were in care (immediately before the SGO was made) ie the one who are also paying the SGO allowances. Even though a student is having contact with a parent-this should not go against the applic...

Re: Grants for University for those on SGO
Dear LLB, I have checked the information that is contained on page 25 of the advice sheet 19 “DIY Special Guardianship orders” about University Loans and Grants and this is still relevant and has recently been verified by a leading expert on tax and welfare rights. So the ESSR 2008 regs still apply ...

Re: Can my sister have her children back????
Hi Deza, You are right in that SGO’s do last up until a child is 18. However they can come to and end before that if the Court orders that the SGO be discharged. Your sister could apply to court to discharge the SGO but she does not have an automatic right to apply. She would have to: 1. Apply for l...

Re: SGO Never ending
Hi Sam, Sorry for the slight delay in replying to you. I just want to clarify a few things before I give you advice. I think what you are saying is that you currently are a foster carer (FC) for the children and receiving foster care allowance (FCA). You have applied for a SGO and the final hearing ...

Re: Clueless...please advise??
Hi Aunty, First of all, well done to your brother for turning his life around, it is a great achievement. However, I’m sorry that your niece – and your family – is going through this stressful ordeal. As Robin has mentioned, it would seems that this is a private arrangement as you brother took steps...

Re: LA Duty of Care
Hi Grace, Thanks for getting back to me. I had thought you meant it was a stage 2 investigation but I didn’t want to presume. The reason I asked is because if it was the LGO, they can recommend that the LA pay you compensation if your complaint is upheld. The other way to pursue costs/compensation i...

Hi Modsas, Unfortunately we do not provide a face to face service and we no longer offer an advocacy service because, unfortunatley, our funding was withdrawn. I have replied to your private message and I think you have spoken to one of our other advisors. Please feel free to call us again or get in...

Re: LA Duty of Care
Hi Grace, I’m one of the advisors at FRG. To make sure I give you the right answer, I would like a little bit more information from you so could you please answer these couple of questions? 1. When you say “recover costs” what do you mean? Do you mean in terms of compensation or in getting backdated...
