FGC Manager's Meeting - July 2025
Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2025 5:15 pm
Today there were 13 FGC managers from 13 local authorities/organisations. Thanks so much for coming along!
The main topics of conversation:
What is the difference between family group decision-making / family network meetings and FGC? Please see the separate thread on this forum. Some ambiguity over difference between family network meetings and FGCs. Family Rights Group's position is that it is important to define what an FGC is and stick to accredited model as some have asked about ‘FGC lite’. Families First Partnership guidance calls for evidence-based model. FGC is the gold standard of FGDM evidence-based models.
Upskilling FGC team to respond to parental conflict – Different attendees shared names of mediation trainers specifically for FGC teams (e.g. Netcare and L30 Relational Systems)
Getting pre-birth FGC offer right – Several local authorities have specific pre-birth panels which refer to FGC at 5-8 months into the pregnancy. Earliest referrals seem to be 3-4 months in.
Resourcing and embedding FGC plans – hints and tips shared from the network.
Getting buy-in from wider authority – hints and tips shared from the network.
Congratulations to Slough who offically launched their FGC service 2 weeks and have 9 referrals!!
Some referral averages per coordinator:
8-10 per coordinator
14 per coordinator (50 FGCs per year)
10 per coordinator (2-3 FGCs per month)
12-14 per coordinator (2-3 FGCs per month)
8 per coordinator
10-17 per coordinator
Several authorities reported high waiting lists
