Today at the LL Managers Meeting a discussion topic was 'LL and Young People in Custody'.
Some of the experiences/discussions of the network attendees was:
- Mixed success to date
- Obstacles of building those links with prisons to allow LL team to visit YP, not knowing who and how to build those links. Probation teams and Youth Justice Teams have been helpful & the LL team have delivered information sessions
- Obstacle of YP changing prison short notice
- Obstacle if using self employed coordinators who do not use a Local authority email address, access declined and work required to overcome
- Mindful of confidentiality of what is to be shared
- One example of YP declined LL as they felt they could not discuss something very emotionally challenging and then return to the prison environment where they needed to ‘have their walls up to protect themselves’
- Circles has been adapted by printing as a workaround when not able to take in devices, yet still enabling those conversations
Attached is the 'Always Hope Evaluation Report' which involves LL and young people in custody.
Please use this discussion thread to add any resources or ideas and experience that may be helpful to your network colleagues. (please do not share any identifying/personal information)
