This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join Barnardo's as a Family Group Conference/Lifelong links Facilitator at the Family Support Service, Barnardo's Cymru South East Wales Locality to support children and young people.
About Newport Family Support Service
The Family Support Service (FSS) is a component of the Integrated Family Support Services (IFSS) in Newport. As part of a Strategic Partnership, the Integrated Family Support Services is delivered jointly by a partnership between Newport Children's Services and Barnardo's. The aim of the Integrated Family Support Services is to provide multi-agency, evidence based interventions that integrate seamlessly for children, young people and their families.
The Family Support Service provides interventions to families with children identified as having child protection concerns, are in need of care and support or those who are on the Child Protection Register, to prevent the breakdown of the family unit. They work according to the principles that with the right support families can identify their strengths and achieve change.
The aim of the Integrated Family Support Services is to provide holistic family centred interventions for children, young people and their parents or carers arising from an assessment of need. The team contributes to the following objectives:
To diminish the need for unplanned admissions to the ‘Looked after System.
To safeguard and promote the well-being of children.
To support parents and carers so that they are able to meet the needs of their children.
As part of the Strategic Partnership, the Integrated Family Support Services has developed a strand of the service to deliver Family Group Conferences to families where the child or young person's Social Worker has identified that this service might be of benefit.
Job Role
You will undertake Family Group Conference Service Facilitator. Your duties will include:
Engaging with families and professionals to lead and facilitate family group conferences.
To deliver holistic family focused programmes and interventions to prevent the break-up of the family and enable children to remain at home.
To support parents to build upon their strengths and improve their parenting capacity.
Work in partnership with other professionals and agencies to ensure the welfare of the child.
Enable children, young people and parents to identify their goals and achieve change.
