Advanced Course for Practitioners on Child Care Law and Child Protection Procedures

Length: two days

Many staff working with families and children require an understanding of child care law and of child protection procedures. The one day course gives a basic introduction. The two day course is advised for staff who require a more detailed knowledge of the law. This course can be offered in conjunction with the course on advocacy for families.

Course designed for: Advocates, social workers, lawyers and other workers whose work requires an clear, up to date understanding of the legal framework including case law and government regulations and guidance

The course will:

• Examine the legal framework including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, the Human Rights Act 1998, child protection procedures, and adoption law (current and new frameworks);
• Explore the principles underpinning the legislation and guidance;
• Examine latest research evidence and case law and consider implications for practice; and

Focus upon tensions and practice dilemmas regarding partnership working with families.
