Wrongly accused

Post by Kc776 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 12:13 pm

Our 6 week old baby was taken to RUH with 2 tiny bruises. (One on the chin and one in middle of shoulder blades) Baby was kept in for nearly 24 hours in a ward full of sick children before baby'd even had the first jab. 90% of The hospital staff treated us like we'd abused our baby and were so judgemental it broke our hearts even before the doctors had done tests and spoken to social services! We're first time parents and there is no handbook. We may have accidentally pinched baby's skin together on the back whilst picking baby up, and the one on the chin, from rubbing face with muslin cloth. But the whole experience from being at hospital and the way we were treated was disgusting. We do have social services scheduling a visit to "show us how to correctly hold our baby". Me an my partner (not including the family) have been so traumatically and emotionally scarred from this, we're now too worried to hold baby too much, just to prevent another bruise which could then lead to another investigation. What rights do we have over our baby? And where do we stand with the appalling behaviour we received? Thanks

Dear kc776,
Who thought hospital treatment was necessary for the bruises? Was any treatment necessary? Who was it who demanded you take the baby to hospital?

The answers to those questions could tell us a lot. It sounds like someone has given false, insiduous information and made malicious allegations against you without your knowledge and we can only guess who it was.Social workers have been known to do so in the past. That is all I can say.
Warning-- if anything like this happens to you again and you don't know what caused bruises. Stick to it, don't start guessing what might have happened and saying they may be caused by this or they may be caused by that. Also bruises generally take a day or two to develop so always consider who may have been in contact with the baby beside yourselves.
It sounds like apologies from the hospital staff would be in order. If you go and see them you might find out if false allegations were made against you.

Dear Kc776

Welcome to the parent's board.

I am sorry to hear about your difficult experience of being involved with medical professionals.
Have Children's Services visited you yet? As well as demonstrating how to 'hold your baby' they will most likely want to complete an initial or core assessment to see what (if any) further support they can offer you at this time.

Once they have been out to see you and you require some more advice please feel free to update your thread here or contact the Family Rights Group advice line on 0808 801 0366 Monday to Friday 09.30 am 03.00 pm.

Best Wishes

Suzie

Hello ,,im hoping that every child that go's into hospital with any form of bruising gets the same treatment and the parents shouldn't look into it to much, accidents do happen, like you say when the child is born you are not given an handbook. Unless there is some other negative feelings your experiencing then don't worry .If you are going to get help from social services that's good advise ,try to think of other questions they may be able to help you with .sometimes we simply don't know how to do something unless shown ....Happy Family's is a happy child

Good Look
Think about what your going to do ,before you do it,,,simples
