Dear Angl1

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Board.

You have given some background information but perhaps not enough for me to give you a comprehensive response. However based on what you have said, your daughter when she was child or young person was assaulted by an individual after which (I assume) Children’s Services became involved and your daughter was subject to a child protection plan?

Now your daughter has a child of her own, and was told that she cannot have contact with the person who harmed her as a child/young person, is this what you mean? If so what (if any) relationship is this individual to your grandchild and why have social workers told your daughter that she cannot have contact with him – is this because he is deemed a risk to children?

You also say that your daughter’s child’s father is not allowed to see the baby. What risk does he pose to the child, has this risk been outlined to your daughter, why are the police involved?

Fathers may have access to their children if they apply for a Child Arrangements Order. Our advice sheet DIY Child Arrangements Orders: information for family and friends carers is written for family and friends but applies to parents too.

Other advice sheets that may be useful to you are An introductory guide to Children’s Services and Child protection procedures. The frequently asked questions (FAQs) on our website may help too.

It would be helpful to us if you could post again giving more detailed information or if you prefer you can call our confidential telephone advice service on 0808 801 0366 and discuss your daughter’s situation with one of our advisers. The line is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.00pm.

Best wishes

Suzie
