Do social workers really know how to assess parenting?

We have been contacted by the University of York who are conducting some research into parenting capacity assessments. Their study is looking at the experiences of Black and Minority Ethnic families whose parenting competence has been assessed by children's services (social services) and they are looking for volunteers to be involved.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study about parenting capacity assessments.
The study seeks to understand the extent to which social workers take into account the influence of culture and ethnicity when assessing the parenting capacities of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) families.
Therefore, we are interested in getting the views of BME parents whose parenting competence has been assessed by social services.
As a participant in this study, you will be asked to: (take part in at least one group discussion; a one-to-one interview and one feedback session)
Your participation will involve no more than four sessions,
each of which is approximately forty-five minutes.
In appreciation for your time, you will receive a “goody bag” containing
(a gift voucher, parenting leaflets, product samples and discount offers).
