Dear saraheve29

Thanks for your further posts. I understand how difficult it can be to apart from your child on mothers’ day. You may already know about organisations such as Family Lives which offer a listening service to parents through their helpline 0808 800 2222 and MATCH Mothers which is a charity offering support and information to mothers separated from their children different reasons; their helpline is 0800 689 4104.

It is good that your solicitor is discussing with the other parties the possibility of involving an assessor specialising in autism. I hope your solicitor is able to give you an update on that soon.

You mention that your father is no longer going ahead with his special guardianship assessment as he wants your son home with you. Have you talked this through fully with your solicitor and your father? It is usually best for family members to be assessed so that if a parent is not successful and a family member has a positive assessment this can allow a child to remain within the family.

It may also a good idea to consider asking for a family group conference (FGC) (if this has not already happened) to pull together your support network - you mention that you are moving to be closer to family - this could help you and your family demonstrate the better support you will have. Our advice sheet What is a family group conference explains more about this and we also have a short film What is a family group conference? A guide for families. The more positive support you have the better you will be able to manage whatever the outcome.

With best wishes.

Hi my dad said because he is retired he does not want the responsibility of bringing up a 10 year old untill their 18. He said he wouldnt mind if it was shared with me but social services said it will not be able to be shared,
Now social service's said their going to move my son foster care placement as the current foster is no longer able to care due to retirement.
Im worried about the impact this will have on my son. Ive been advised to try again in the future.

Dear saraheve29

Thanks for the clarifying information.

Do ask your son’s social worker to keep you as informed as possible about your son’s proposed move especially as you are worried about how it will impact on him. If you have any ideas about how to minimise the disruption for your son do let the social worker know. The social worker should also keep your son’s Independent Reviewing Officer informed about any changes proposed.

Best wishes

Suzie
