We were fostering ours for many years which was a nightmare in itself and SS kept asking us to go for an order of some kind.

In the end we chose SGOs and took the opinion that we would not take out SGOs without a financial agreement in writing prior to the court case. After a long battle we got this financial agreement. Of course we may have been in a much stronger position because we had been fostering for years and SS wanted to get rid of us!

Yes we do the annual means test every year but unless our circumstances change dramatically there is nothing they can do because we made sure that our SGO allowances are linked and based on the recommended fostering allowances regardless of our small savings which are for our old age.

After all we are retired pensioners and we should not be expected to bring up children at our own expense that we did not give birth to! We have done our bit bringing up our own children never once going on benefit except unemployment benefit on a couple of short occasions. So we stuck it out and won. Otherwise we would still be fostering.
