Benefit Changes

Post by Help 1870 » Tue Oct 26, 2010 10:04 am

How is this going to affect the many single carers who are on benefit, and particularly those who still have a Looked after child.

When a child is LAC the carer is unable to claim the Child Benefit, because of that they also cant claim the Child Tax Credit and more importantly the Child care element making going back to work virtually impossible as the full of cost child care would have to be funded by the carer without any help from the state.

The government is proposing a number of changes to the benefits system which could potentially have an effect on family and friends carers.

Family Rights Group has been organising a 'tax and benefits group' meeting, including some experts in the field, since January this year. We are currently working out the best way to influence government in order to try to protect family and friends carers from changes which could affect them.
