We've become aware that some local authorities are saying that they can't make urgent or emergency placements with family and friends carers any more. They say this is due to the Care Planning, Placement & Case Review Regulations, which came into force in April this year.
Under these regulations, local authorities CAN make an urgent or emergency placement with a family and friends care, by giving them temporary approval as foster carers. This lasts for 16 weeks, while they do your fostering assessment.
However, we have heard that some local authorities are interpreting the regulations to mean that they can't make these placements any more.
We'd like to hear more from anybody who's been affected by this, as it shouldn't be happening.
Please write to me if you think this has happened to you or someone you know: droth@frg.org.uk
Thank you.
