Tune into Family Rights Group Radio 4 Appeal

Post by Forum Administrator » Mon Nov 24, 2014 12:39 pm

We are delighted that in our 40th anniversary year, we were the featured charity of the Radio 4 Appeal on Sunday 23rd November; and that Chris Leaves, a grandparent carer, presented the appeal for us. You can listen again to Chris Leaves presenting our 40th anniversary appeal either by tuning in to Radio 4 on Thursday 27th November at 15:27 or by listening on iplayer

Chris was raised in care and subsequently became a social worker and, with her husband Colin, fostered more than 20 children. Colin and Chris raised two of their grandchildren and that spurred her on 25 years ago to establish a support group in Peterborough for family and friends carers, including aunts, uncles, grandparents and siblings raising children unable to live with their parents. She knows the difference that Family Rights Group's advice can make to families in this situation and now helps us set up local groups for family and friends carers across the country. Find out more about Chris's life and her motivation.

We are extremely grateful to Chris for sharing her personal experience and demonstrating why our work is so important. The Radio 4 Appeal is an excellent opportunity for us to publicise the work of the charity to a wider audience and hopefully raise a substantial amount of money. Demand for our advice service has tripled in 7 years – funding constraints mean we can only help 4 in 10 people contacting us.

Find out here how monies from the appeal will enable us to help more desperate families.

Thank you.
