Question

Post by Roma1 » Mon Mar 07, 2016 7:52 am

Can someone tell me what the arrangements for BM are generally in regards to sending/ receiving birthday cards, Mother's Day cards etc when their child is in care? Would it be normally allowed for a child to send cards etc to their BM? Just interested since I am allowed to send cards/ presents etc to the children but the BM says she gets nothing on her birthday etc.
Although there is regular contact so this is not one of those cases where there is "no contact" order in place.
Thanks

Dear Roma1
Thank you for your post.
Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule regarding contact with children in care because as I am sure you will appreciate each set of circumstances is unique depending on the childrens' needs.
Was there a point in time where mother was allowed more correspondence. It may depend whether contact was left to the discretion of the Local Authority at the time the care orders were made.
Perhaps it would be helpful to raise your concerns with the social worker or IRO to see if there could be a review of the contact plan. Mother should do the same.
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes

Suzie
