SGO a couple of questions

Postby worriednan » Sun Mar 01, 2015 9:18 am

Can anyone clear up a couple of questions for me please.
Does an SGO being granted mean that the child is no longer 'looked after'?
Does an SGO mean that you share parental responsibility with the local authority?
Even with an SGO does it mean I have to CRB check anyone who may babysit?

Many thanks

Hi Worried Nan,

IN my limited understanding it is as follows:
Yes no longer LAC
No you share PR w/ BP's 51:49 in your favour
Don't know the last one!

Many thanks for your reply.
I have set up a support group and went along to an advice centre to see how they run, this is the kind of advice they are giving out, I didn't think it was correct but thought I would check with the real experts.
This website really is the best.

Thank you again.

Many thanks to both of you for your replies.

I will be recommending FRG to all of my members.

My understanding is also that it is one step away from adoption bti doesn't sever ties with the birth parents ( ie. They don't lose all their PR but it is very limited, as Irene says)
CS want me to go for this option but I am worried about potential conflict with the BM and would rather have the back up of CS. SGO effectively means that the child is no longer in the care system, although there are provisions for support ( financial and otherwise)
I am going t wit the dust settle first before deciding ( if I ever get the child at the rate we are going!!,) :)
