Kinship Care Parliamentary reception

Post by Forum Administrator » Mon Sep 07, 2015 5:50 pm

Family Rights Group is holding a parliamentary reception hosted by Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP at 1-2.30pm on the 13th October at which we'll launch the national kinship survey results. This is the largest survey carried out on kinship care). Sir Andrew McFarlane, a high court judge will be one of the speakers, and Children and Families Minister, Edward Timpson MP has been invited to speak The reception is an opportunity to raise awareness about kinship care with parliamentarians, and of course the need for support. There will be a light lunch however, unfortunately we have no funds for the event so cannot pay travel fares or childcare. If you - (and the young people who you are raising) would like to attend, please let kbryan@frg.org.uk know with details of your relationship to the children (e.g. grandparent) and the parliamentary constituency where you live (or your local authority area if you're not sure of the constituency).

Best wishes

Cathy Ashley (Chief Executive, Family Rights Group

Dear Wilhelmina,

Welcome to the friends and family carers forum!
It sound like you are offering a very much needed service for grandparents.

Does your service include seeking contact when children are placed in the care system?
If so, please have a look at our advice sheet 14 about Contact with children in the care system .

If your service offers advice and support to grandparents who are prevented from seeing their grandchildren in other circumstances, you could contact Grandparents Plus or the
Grandparents Association who both offer expert advice and support.

We don’t have any relevant conferences at the moment but keep an eye on our
news for grandparents carers.

We also have information about setting up support groups that you might find helpful
here.

Best wishes,

Suzie
