Around 200,000 children in the United Kingdom, who cannot live with their parents, are being raised by kinship carers including grandparents, older siblings, other relatives or friends, largely due to tragedy or trauma. Many get little or no practical or financial support. There are also some children in the care system for whom the option of being raised by members of their wider family or friendship network has been too readily dismissed or even overlooked altogether.

Please click here to write to your parliamentary candidates today to raise awareness about kinship care and endorse our campaign to ensure children who cannot live with their parents have the opportunity to live with wider family and friends and get the support they need and to commit to joining the Parliamentary Taskforce on Kinship Care, if elected. A template email is provided but please add in your own experiences. If you do get a response from your parliamentary candidates, please forward it to cashley@frg.org.uk so we can follow up on their promises after the election.

As well as contacting your local candidates, please do spread the word about the campaign on social media, and encourage your friends and family. We’re getting some very interesting responses forwarded to us from parliamentary candidates of all parties, including some with personal experience of kinship care. But there’s 650 constituencies – so we need 1000s of messages sent to ensure that we reach all candidates. If tweeting it’s #kinshipcareGE19
