Housing benefit

Post by Nannyloves2 » Wed Nov 14, 2018 8:46 pm

Hi if you claim housing benefit does the local authority deduct anything you are awarded from your sgo payments? Any advice would be great.

Dear Nannyloves2

Thank you for your further post.

You are concerned about what will happen to your housing benefit once you are receiving special guardianship allowance payments.

I am sending you our advice sheet Social security support for relatives and friends looking after someone else’s child relating to support by way of benefits available when caring for someone else’s child. In your case, and in response to your specific question, receipt of housing benefit is unlikely to affect the allowance you receive. Please look at page 16 of the advice sheet which deals specifically with housing benefit and council tax support.

If you have any other specific concerns regarding benefits you could also seek advice from your local citizen’s advice bureau as they have detailed knowledge of the benefits system.

Hope you find this information helpful.

Best wishes

Suzie
