Hi ied53

Children under SGOs are not entitled to leaving care support on the same terms as children who remain 'looked after' in the care system up to and/ or beyond 16years. They are currently entitled to some leaving care support, however, if they are 16 or over but under 21, under a Special Guardianship Order (SG0) or were when they turned 18 and were looked after in the care system as a child immediately before the SGO was made.

If your child is in this category:
- they will be entitled to ‘advice and assistance’ from Children’s Services, which may, be in cash;
- Children’s Services may also give them help with living expenses near where they work or are in education or training; if they are in higher education, they may also help them with securing vacation accommodation.

See our advice sheet about support for young people leaving the care system.

Hope this helps.

Best Wishes
Suzie
