SGO + Financial Reponsibility of parent.
Hi, I have an SGO in place for my 15 year old twin nieces. They have been living with me for the last 5 years as their mother is an alcoholic and I have been receiving an allowance for the last 3 which started after the SGO court hearing. In that time and to date, I have received no financial suppor...

1st Court hearing SGO - knowing my rights as Council are useless!
Hi there, After 2 long years of totally unhelpful social workers (we're on our third), many more years of emotional turmoil, being misadvised and being fobbed off time and time and time again by the council to the point where I actually told them I thought I was going to have to let my nieces go int...

Re: It feels like as a family carer I'm discriminated against!
Hi Suzie, The situation is worse, as I have had to move out of my home and share with my parents! Not good for my mental health at my age! It was a case of having nowhere to go or move in with them and the council knew this, but also knew that my mother wouldn't see us homeless. Universal Credit don...

Re: It feels like as a family carer I'm discriminated against!
Hi, maybe there is someone in the same situation as me that knows of ways/means to get the financial support I need in order to continue to care for my nieces. Having been given some legal advice, it would appear that because I personally picked up the girls from their drunk mother nearly 2 years ag...

Re: It feels like as a family carer I'm discriminated against!
Hi Suzie, The arrangement whereby the girls were put into my care was initiated by Social Services. They were no longer safe with their Mother, so, to prevent them having to go into care I was happy to look after them (and still am). A child protection / child in need plan is in place. In September ...
