Re: SGO advice
In our case, the court declined to make a contact order because the judge wanted to give us, as SGs, control - as it happened, the first meeting went very badly and our nephew said he didn't want any more visits. That was six years ago and he maintains this position - he's now 12 and has no interest...

Further children after SGO
We look after our nephew on an SGO, and we were told by the social worker at the time that if his parents ever had more children, they would be removed. The birth parents have since moved to a new town in a different part of the country, and someone commented recently that they thought the mother ha...

Free school lunches
We were told recently that our nephew, for whom we hold an SGO, would be eligible for free school meals. Our income is too high for us to receive any financial support from the council, but apparently school lunches are calculated based on the income of birth parents. Is this correct? If so, it woul...

Converting SGO to adoption
We've got an SGO on our nephew, which was granted just over three years ago. During this time, he's had no contact with parents, though we have provided updates to his mother several times a year with photographs. He has no wish to be in touch with his "ex-parents" as he calls them - and t...

A bit of a rant...
We are three years into an SGO, and at home, things are going well. However, I have one bugbear that I can't get past. The nature of family law cases means that what you learn in court, or during the hearing process, remains confidential. In our case, that includes all the medical reports on the chi...

Re: What is a supervision order....
We've got an SGO. During the hearing, the judge considered a contact order and a supervision order at our request. The contact order would ensure that we only had to organise contact on set dates (as our relationship with the other family members involved is very poor) and a supervision order so tha...

Re: What form required for name change in SGO?
Nine years old, and at the point at which the SGO was granted, we thought that there would be contact, but this hasn't happened. There is no chance of him ever returning home, and he is adamant that he doesn't want to see them again because of what they put him through.

What form required for name change in SGO?
We're looking to change the name of our nephew, who we look after under an SGO. What form do I need to complete to apply to the court for leave to do this? Birth parents have refused consent, but there is no contact (at the insistence of the child). I suspect that it would be a C100 form, but if tha...

It drives me nuts...!
What happens in the Family Court stays in the Family Court. Which is why I am appalled when I see newspaper reports about abuse and neglect, and think that our case was far worse, and yet parents were not prosecuted. Acres of evidence, photographs as bad or worse than those in the Daily Mail this we...

Re: SGO
Hi Egged1. A couple of things to think about for you. We have an SGO on our nephew, who was six years old - birth parents had been neglecting and abusing him, but we hadn't been in contact for years (because we reported them to social services, and they were not too happy about that). Getting a soli...
