Adoption order granted!
So..... We decided to apply for adoption rather than special guardianship. We did that knowing that SGOs are more usual in cases where grandparents have care of a little one, but we felt strongly that an adoption was more suitable in our case. Still, we kind of expected to end up with an SGO. Many, ...

Re: Ending a SGO
Hi A special guardianship order can be changed or revoked by the courts. You will need to apply to the courts. Best option is to go back to the court which granted the order and ask for their advice on the correct forms etc. I'm sure other people may know the right forms but the court office have be...

Re: Nursery
If he is with you under SGO he will get priority on school choices, so you are more likely to be able to get a place at the school of your choice. You should also get pupil premium for the nursery. If there are issues, you could ask if the pupil premium can be used for supporting him. Sounds like he...

If they are planning 'final hearing and celebration' that must be an encouraging sign!

Re: Eek.... Just given notice to the Local Authority
So back in April we gave notice to social services. They bounced it around the department for a couple of months before even speaking to us. Now they say they are 'having difficulty appointing a social worker' to assess us. So....... I've contacted our doctors to get the medical reports done, and on...

Re: Need of Assessment Advice. PLEASE!!
Hi devoted uncle Just a quick reply... No doubt others will reply with more info. But I suggest you call the FRG advice line TODAY 0808 801 0366 to speak to one of their advisers. There are a number of routes open to you. While the children are 'looked after' the local authority can make all kinds o...

Eek.... Just given notice to the Local Authority
We've decided to apply for an adoption order. Have just written to the local authority to give the required 3 months notice. Lots of reasons why we think adoption rather than SGO is better for the little one long term. I guess it'll be up to the court to decide. But at the end of the process I want ...

Re: interim care order v special guatdian
Hi There is a section on this site with advice sheets which have lots of detail. Someone better than me at computer stuff might put a link in a reply to you. There are lots of differences, but the main one is who has parental responsibility and can make decisions for the child. With a care order, in...

To all 'mums'
Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day. A friend of mine once told me that 'mothering' is about love and what you do for the child in your care. I may not be the little one's mother in a biological sense, but I am his mother in all other ways. This is a hard day for many of us. I hope it i...
