Family decision making: If you want to change outcomes, change the way decisions are made about children
Date: Tuesday 13th September 2022
Time: 9.15am to 10.30am

The independent review of children’s social care in England recommended in their May 2022 report that “a new legal entitlement to family group decision making should be introduced before a case reaches the Public Law Outline (PLO), so that a family led alternative plan for taking care of the child can be considered before a Care Order is presented by the local authority to the court”. Join us on 13th September as we host a free webinar exploring family group decision making and how to best involve families in decision making processes with our speaker Paul Nixon. Paul has been involved with family group conferences since the early 1990s, he has worked as a senior service manager responsible for strategy and effectiveness in West Berkshire and then as Assistant Director in North Yorkshire and Hull. He was Chief Social Worker at the Ministry for Children New Zealand from 2011 until 2018 and has worked in Australia and the United States. During the webinar session Paul will look to compare approaches in other nations and what lessons we can learn, including how family group conferences can transform children’s and families experiences.
